Kenneth R. De León Colón works as research assistant at the CCRHP, collaborating in the MONOCOV project. He is currently completing his B.S. in Industrial Microbiology with a minor concentration in project management and international relations at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez Campus (RUM). Mr. De-León had previous experience in working project based on the optimization of experiments in the Biochemistry I laboratory at the RUM: Isolation of Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) and Electrophoresis with the main objectives of reducing analysis time, reducing expenses and guaranteeing results that promote an effective teaching and learning process. Moreover, has worked in the Atopic Dermatitis and Vulgar Ichthyosis project in Puerto Rico, which sought to identify and study genetic variants associated with atopic dermatitis and vulgar ichthyosis in Puerto Rico, establishing frequencies of both conditions in the general population, and correlate the two conditions with asthma and different types of allergies. From 2018 to the present, Mr. De-León has proven his leadership skills working as Councilor and Senator for the Science Faculty, and student representative before the Administrative Board of the RUM.
Research Interests: After graduating in May 2022, he aspires to course graduate studies in the areas of Molecular Biology or Neuroscience, where he wishes to pursue areas of research related to diabetes and human cognition.
